One sure fire way to improve your photography is to change your perspective. Not just with your eyes, but with your actual camera. There are many well known photography evangelists that preach this in their seminars and practice what they preach. They often say that if you want shots that look the same as everyone else’s photo, just stand and shoot.
To be unique in telling your story, get creative in how you shoot the subject. This may entail you standing on the car, lying down, lifting the camera overhead, or in the case of the image below, putting your lens on a monopod with the monitor pulled out.

Now, I cannot take credit for this idea, I learned this one from a UK photographer whom I follow on social media and frequent his blog. This technique works really well for wildlife in getting a unique perspective and coming away with shots are from the viewpoint and height of the animals.

This is not unique to just wildlife, you can use this with other genres as well. Also, you can use other forms and types of support such a small tripod or splaying the legs on a bigger one. The takeaway is don’t settle for ordinary. Experiment and ask yourself “what if” I did it this way. You will definitely come away with great photographs when you change your perspective.
