I cannot tell you how many stories I have heard from other photographers that have had bad things happen. A failed hard drive, water damage, fire and all those images, often, a life’s work or a once in a lifetime trip, gone in an instant and totally preventable with a backup strategy.
Doing something over and over becomes a habit. Studies have shown that if you can stay consistent with something for longer than 30 days, it will become easier to do, an engrained habit if you will, and you are more likely to stay with it over time. The same can be said for backing up your photographic files.

I did a previous post called “Saving all those images” that you can read where I broke down the differences in the options out there from RAIDS to online backups. I am always amazed at how much people spend on their gear and accessories for photography and for a fraction of that, they can can piece of mind knowing their images are safe and recoverable. With some simple planning and minimal cost, the aforementioned tragedies would have no impact on your photographic libraries.
I would love to hear your comments below on how you protect your work.
