So often I hear people that I shoot with say to me “I wish my photos were like so and so” or “I want my images to look like this photographers“. While looking at other photographers work for inspiration is something we all do, and there is nothing wrong with that, does this really help move your photography forward and find your own photographic path?
Following your own path means cultivating the courage to honor your inner voice, values, and authenticity over societal pressures or others’ expectations. It involves embracing vulnerability, navigating resistance, and viewing uncertainty as an opportunity for growth rather than fear, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling photographs.

If I may, let me offer some aspects on following your own path. These are strictly my humble opinions:
Inner Guidance & Authenticity: It is essential to listen to your inner voice rather than conforming out of fear, as described in. This means defining success on your own terms rather than adopting others’ dreams.
Courage Against Resistance: Stepping onto your own path often brings external and internal resistance, but managing fear allows you to connect with your authentic self.
The Power of Self-Discovery: The process is a, often slow, transformative journey that shifts you from fulfilling pre-determined or social expectations to creating images filled with passion and joy that reflect you.
Embracing Flexibility: Rather than rigid planning, it is better to remain flexible and allow curiosity to guide you, try something new with flash or a different genre of photography, especially during transitional times in life. You may find your curiosity leads you to a more fulfilled photographic journey.
The Purpose of the Journey: Following your own path is deemed a gateway to happiness, contentment, and a life deeply rooted in your personal values. Everyone is different and will have a different journey of discovery. Stay on the path. Don’t deviate. You will be rewarded.
Let’s have a discussion. I would love to hear how your path has unfolded.
